Pep Guardiola’s side are currently third in the division, 14 points behind leaders Liverpool, while Villa occupy 17th position, just one point clear of the relegation zone as things stand.

Villa might have invested heavily in their squad over the summer, but there is no getting away from the fact that it has been a tough 2019-20 campaign for Dean Smith’s side thus far.

Team News:

Man City

Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte remain sidelined though both are thought to be nearing a return to fitness.

Elsewhere Pep Guardiola has a fully fit squad to choose from and it will be interesting to see who gets the nod up front, with both Aguero and Jesus left on the bench in midweek.

Ederson will return in goal in place of Claudio Bravo but elsewhere the team may remain largely unchanged, with Raheem Sterling perhaps in line for a rest.

Aston Villa

Following two strong results and much improved defensive organisation, Dean Smith is all set to continue with three at the back, which will be more like a flat five against the champions.
