Manchester City vs Manchester United Match Preview

City already have a 3-1 aggregate lead in this two-legged game, and if they manage to progress to the final, one of Leicester or Aston Villa would be waiting.

While Aston Villa would be a walk in the park, the Foxes could create some problems. Still, considering that the likes of Liverpool are not there, City could almost ensure a silverware this season, if they manage to get through to the finals.

The first leg had almost entirely gone the way of City, despite the match being played at the Old Trafford. Pep Guardiola’s men raced to a 0-3 lead even before the 40th minute, and if not for the 70th minute goal by Marcus Rashford, the Citizens would have won the first leg, to nil.

Anyhow, City registered a 1-3 victory then on the road.

This aggregate lead will play a big role in determining the outcome of this game. As per the rules of the Carabao, the away-goal rules are not applied, and in case of a tied scoreline at the end of regular time in a second leg, there will not be extra time either.

This translates to – United will have to score three goals without conceding any, if they are to make it to the final properly. If they score two unanswered goals, aggregate scorecard will be tied, and still they would have to go through the ordeal of penalties in hostile territory.

As such, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will have no option but to play attacking football right from the beginning, and they have to outscore the best offensive team in the PL, by three goals in ninety minutes.

Considering the predicament of the Red Devils, they will have no option but to leave spaces at the back, and to go after goals. This olus pressure will definitely bring lapses in defense, and as is known, Pep is a master of taking advantage of theses kinds of scenarios.

On top of that, the Citizens have the home advantage, and the knowledge that, once they get to the final, an easier opponent waits  for them. Moreover, due to the run of Liverpool in the PL, City are kind of desperate for any trophy they could get their hands on.

If possible, any team would avoid being pitted against such a desperate City side.

As things stand, Pep’s men, who have scored more goals than any other team in the league, will easily take advantage of United’s desperation, and nervousness, and try to humiliate them.

Lord knows how much a convincing derby win would help the Citizens right now!

By all means expect Manchester City to record a comfortable victory, and to get on top of things right from the get-go.
