Frank Lampard will decide whether to stay with Kepa Arrizabalaga or start Willy Caballero in goal at West Brom after confirming that Chelsea's new signing Edouard Mendy will not be considered for the Hawthorns selection.

Mendy joined Chelsea on a £ 22 million contract from Rennes on Thursday but only trained with his new teammates for the first time on Friday and Lampard has decided not to launch him directly into action.

"Starting on Saturday is not going to happen," Lampard said. "He's had a long week where he hasn't really trained, he flew on Thursday and felt too tight a change put him in contention to start the game."

Chelsea is still without Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, but both players have returned to training and Lampard says they are not far from coming back.

"They are both pieces of training with us now, which is good news and we hope to have them with us in the match for the next week or two," he said.

Thiago Silva could make his Premier League debut after spending 60 minutes in the Carabao Cup on the week, but Ben Chilwell is unlikely to start as he regains his fitness from injury.

Lampard said: “It was good to see Thiago put 60 minutes in the tank. With Ben, maybe I'm a little more cautious. His injury has been challenging. "

Kai Havertz scored a hat-trick against Barnsley playing at No. 10 and Tammy Abraham is pushing to start after a good display in that game.

Chelsea XI vs West Brom (4-3-3) prediction: Caballero; James, Zouma, Silva, Alonso; Kante, Havertz, Kovacic; Monte, Abraham, Werner.
